Choosing between one and the other and what is best for the planet will always come back to sustainable farming. Palm oil has for many years become a topic of debate and how it contributes to the deforestation of large areas of forest in the world. The effects are devastating and some researchers believe that such large areas of the Amazon have already been logged that it is not possible to reverse the negative effect.
In recent years, palm oil has also gained a friend on the list of crops that contribute the most to deforestation. Namely soy. Last year, WWF came out with a report that showed that soy production had overtaken palm oil as the most contributing factor to deforestation. The biggest culprit in the drama is meat consumption. It is also the consumption of meat that has driven up soy production to the place it has today, this is because the largest part of soy production goes to making fodder for livestock.
Remoair aims to make wise choices and that's why we turned to the kinder alternative rapeseed. The oil in our products that comes from rapeseed is manufactured in Europe, which in turn also reduces the footprint.
Rapeseed oil is produced all over Europe and is cold-pressed into a golden oil. The undulating yellow rapeseed fields are a Scanian signature and also part of us as a company. It stands for local agriculture and high quality raw materials. Rapeseed wax is a sustainable alternative without high pressure on intensive agriculture and is also a non-GMO product.
GMOs stand for Genetically Modified Organisms and are organisms in which genetic material is purposefully changed so that they get the characteristics you want.
The coconut wax in our blend comes from a producer who farms sustainably and who also gives some back to the local community. Coconut is a renewable crop with a high yield just like canola. This makes both crops a sustainable, environmentally friendly alternative.
The benefits of our signature wax
When we switched wax from soy to canola, we also noticed an extended time that the candle burned. With our signature wax, we get about 60 hours of burning time on 200 gr, which is also a sustainable part of the whole thing. But there are more benefits of course...
- The candle burns longer than candles made of stearin, paraffin and soy wax
- Burns with a clear flame without toxins such as carbon dioxide
- Spreads the fragrance evenly
- Lower melting point, which allows us to keep a lower temperature during manufacturing
