By taking care of your products, you can extend their life and at the same time reduce your consumption. So for us, it goes without saying that you give a little extra love to everything you buy. In this article, we thought we would give you some simple tips on how you can extend the life of your scented candles.
Difference between cheap candles and expensive candles
It's so easy to buy candles when you're standing in line at Rusta or taking that detour inside IKEA. Now we're not going to throw anyone in front of the bus either, but choosing scented candles for the sake of price is the first mistake. You will automatically get candles that burn up quickly. You therefore want to buy candles that are made of wax with a higher density instead. One such example is rapeseed wax, which, among other things, our scented candles consist of. These candles burn at a lower temperature and whisk and you can perhaps calculate that you will get a candle that then burns longer as well.
How long should a candle be lit?
We know it can be hard to refrain from lighting candles and then just enjoying the whole day. Candles in cups are best enjoyed by burning for just a few hours. This is because the longer the candle burns, the hotter the container becomes. If the container gets hot, the light mass evaporates faster and you run out of light faster. Try to stick to these recommendations:
- 100gr / about 2-3 hours at a time
- 150gr / about 3-4 hours at a time
- 200gr / about 4-5 hours at a time
- 300gr / max 5 hours at a time
There is also a trick to avoid the light burning like a tunnel. Leave the candle on long enough for the wax to melt at the edges. If your candle is in the window frame, you may need to turn the candle from time to time to maintain an even temperature.
How do you trim the wick and why should it be trimmed?
The wick is the engine of the light and the wax is the fuel. The bigger the flame, the more the wick consumes the wax. So to keep the burning time as long as possible, you should trim the wick between times. Easiest with a weight trimmer, then you don't have to destroy the candle or the container with a large pair of scissors. If you pick the wick with your fingers, remember to wash yourself thoroughly afterwards as you get really sooty from a black wick.
Trimming the wick also prevents the formation of mushrooms/lumps on the wick.
Create a supply of scented candles
If you want to have candles lit all day long, our best tip is to have a small supply of candles. Then you can light different candles at different times of the day and let the other candles rest in the meantime. When you are not going to use a candle for a while, natural wax candles do well by being dark and dry but not cold.
The easiest tip to extend the life of scented candles
Give your candles love and care before, during and after they are allowed to burn. The more care, the better light!
