Today, the winner of the Formex Sustainability Award 2023 was presented. Now we can reveal with great joy that it was us, Remoair and our sustainable product refill for scented candles. It's a big day for us and an even bigger day for the environment.
The Formex Sustainability Award is a competition, where exhibiting companies or designers compete to win the award for the most sustainably thought out product. It was already last autumn that the product refill for scented candles became one of all the candidates to compete in Formex's brand new award. For several years, Formex has raised questions about sustainability in its Talks program with lecturers and enthusiasts in the industry. This year, the focus is strengthened even more in connection with this award.
"The price still sets a kind of standard going forward and I will continue to make sure that more people top up instead of buying new."
⎯ Martin, founder
Behind the winning company and product we find the founder Martin Jirverus, who with his passion for the environment created something that the market needed for a long time. It was in connection with a batch of scented candles getting labels that the candle fell out of the cup and the idea of refill was born. It turned out that refills for candles in themselves were not completely new, but we always work with sustainability in focus.
"With a simple and smart product, the scented candle market has finally got a refill solution that works. A neat way to encourage recycling and create atmosphere in our homes without the aftertaste of either the fossil industry, animal waste products or rainforest destruction."
⎯ Justification for nomination, Formex
In order for the product to meet our requirements, we needed to rethink. If our refill could only be filled in our candle cups, the customer would be bound to buy a candle cup from us. A cast refill puck in our signature wax would also need to be protected as the wax is soft and fragile. So to solve the equation, the solution was that the customer can melt the wax himself and then fill it in a candle cup that is already at home.
